The current weather forecast shows as cloudy but no rain between now and 3 pm tomorrow with temps at 49F 10 am up to 55F by 3 pm.

So the ride is on!  See you tomorrow! (dress warmly as the temps will stay cool)

(Rain is forecasted to arrive after 4 pm and end by 4 am Sunday, but might linger until 10 am).

The weather forecast seems to change daily, currently forecasted as a 50% chance of rain for Sat Feb 4.  However, the forecasted chance of rain might be continuation from Friday and finish by early Saturday morning before we ride at 10 am.  I will post here Friday afternoon if ride needs to be cancelled due to rain.   That said, temps have been mid-40s to mid-50s so dress for cool weather with layers.  We'll stop at Wildflour Bread in Freestone for snacks / coffee etc. so bring cash/credit if you'd like to snack up.

This ride is joint posted with the Santa Rosa Cycling Club, so advance sign up is required to distinguish if you will be riding as an SRCC member or SRCC guest.  PWCC and SRCC club accident insurance will not cover the other club's members, and vice versa. PWCC and SRCC have some joint members, so in case of an accident, it needs to be clear which club’s insurance will apply.

If you are a PWCC member only, please sign up with me, indicating Sat Feb 4 B Pace ride (vs. Sun Feb 5 A Pace ride), by sending an email to me at mailto:sarmientomike@gmail.com or call/text me at (415) 307-4871 and I will list you as a PWCC participant.

If you are a joint PWCC/SRCC member, please sign up with me, indicating Sat Feb 4 B Pace ride (vs. Sun Feb 5 A Pace ride), by sending an email to me at mailto:sarmientomike@gmail.com or call/text me at (415) 307-4871 and let me know if you are riding as a PWCC or SRCC participant.  If you are riding as an SRCC member, you must pre-register by going to the SRCC ride event page. If you are riding as a PWCC member, see the paragraph above.

If you are not a member of either club:

    • If you'd like to ride as a PWCC guest,  we kindly ask that fill out the PWCC Liability Waiver and provide the completed form to me at the beginning of the ride   After your initial "try-us-out-ride" we ask that you join PWCC
    • If you'd like to ride as an SRCC guest, follow the pre-registration instructions above and also print the attached liability waiver form and provide the completed form to me at the beginning of the ride. After your initial SRCC guest ride, we ask that you join SRCC.

Thanks! (keep your fingers crossed that it doesn't rain on Saturday!)

Updated route map link so that the RwGPS route has the full cue sheet.  Also attached the Cue Sheet with Map to the post.  Thanks.

(I now have higher level access to RwGPS so going forward the routes will have cue sheets and route maps!)

    Saturday, February 4, 2023

    • B pace (12 to 13 mph avg)
    • Hilly (2,400 ft total elev, Burnside Rd and Middle Rd have 7-8% grades)
    • Regroup as needed, we'll start and end together including in Freestone
    • 51.6 miles, ~4h15m riding time, plan on at least 5 hours including stops and breaks.
    • Please arrive ready to roll by 9:55 am at River Front Cafe / B St & 2nd. We will leave PROMPTLY at 10:00 am (a later start time for warmer temps)

We'll stop and fill water bottles / food break / restroom at Wild Flour Bread in Freestone (mile 24.5).  Make sure to bring snacks / fuel to eat during the ride.

Route Maphttps://ridewithgps.com/routes/41859363 (see attached Route Map with Cue Sheet)

Description: A popular Petaluma Wheelmen bakery ride to Wild Flour Bread in the small town of Freestone. We take a counter clockwise loop, which is preferable on a Saturday, as we'll be going in the opposite direction of RVs headed toward the coast, and this counter-clockwise loop gets more of the climbing out of the way before we hit the bakery!

Recommended for more experienced cyclists, since Burnside Rd. is steep in some spots, and there is a short but steep climb after Valley Ford on Middle Rd and we finish the route climbing up Spring Hill Rd. There is also some fast traffic on the short sections on Stony Point and Bodega Hwy. Overall, a spectacular ride, with great views of Mt. St. Helena from the top of Burnside Road, and farmlands are a vibrant green, and will soon be dotted with the bright yellows of mustard greens.

E-mail for any questions or to RSVP (please specify Sat Feb 4 B Pace ride vs Sun Feb 5 A Pace ride) - Mike Sarmiento

First time riding with PWCC? If you're not a member we kindly ask that fill out the PWCC Liability Waiver.  After your initial "try-us-out-ride" we ask that you join the club.
